Prepping projects for a journey

Recently I picked up a ball of Tofutsies sock yarn at my local yarn shop and have been knitting a pair of plain socks for my mom (as always).

There is something truly comforting about plain sock knitting.  The simple stitches, the fact that I don't have to look while knitting it, the magic of turning the heel...

Quite soon we will be leaving on a summer road trip to visit family back East, so I have been tracing embroidery patterns from Aimee Ray's Doodle Stitching The Motif Collection to small squares of fabric, which I intend to eventually frame in little ribbon-wrapped embroidery hoops over Daisy's bed.

I also have checked the 5th and 6th Harry Potter books out of the library, so this way I will be able to alternate between handwork and reading in the interest of avoiding sore hands or carsickness.  What is your favorite sort of thing to take on a road trip?

I always bring sock projects and like to also bring something lacy but repetitive, like the Estonian garden wrap, where I did the end part at home so the repetitive center part could be worked on on vacation, with the little repeated lace motif chart taped to cardstock and pinned to the project for easy reference without needing to pull out a paper pattern. Have a great trip!

I load up my Ipod with podcasts and occasionally a new audiobook.  Also, a good novel or two ;)

What a perfect projects for a trip!  I always hate when I wait until RIGHT before a trip to figure out what to bring.  Then it becomes a mad rush and I usually regret taking whatever I've packed.

I also do the 'repetitive' knitting projects, usually in lace. Something I can memorize:-)
As a matter of fact, I just started one to take on my trip this saturday!

A good read is a must!
