Falling in love

I've always wanted to crochet and knit, but for some reason it was this big mystery to me, and I didn't know anyone who could teach me. Two years ago, when pregnant with my first baby, I picked up an "easy" sampler baby afghan pattern, some yarn and a few hooks, and forged ahead. This project nearly ended in tears, and all the yarn, hooks, and even the bag I had to carry it all around got thrown in the trash.

In April of this year, nearly 8 months pregnant with my second baby, I decided to make another go at it. This time I found a girl to show me the ropes (or...um...yarn?), and soon I was one happy hooker. One month later I had completed not only two washcloths, but also a granny square baby afghan. After that I started on stuffed animals, then some baby clothes...I picked up a copy of Simple Crochet by Erika Knight and created two wine bottle covers and a basket out of jute garden twine and kitchen string. Then, four weeks ago, I sat down with the book Stitch 'N Bitch, and taught myself how to knit. I started with the Powerful Wrist Protection armband as my first project, and now I'm working on the monkey Punk Rock Backpack. I just can't stop!

Of course, now that I've had my baby, I'm a bit slower (looking after a newborn and a toddler can do that to a person), but no less committed!

Up to this point I've only used cheap acrylic yarns from Wal-Mart, but only because I wanted to make sure that I really loved doing this enough to drop the big cash on great fiber. Now I'm saving up to go to the LYS in Syracuse...

Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of projects. For now, goodnight!
